The El Cajon community is rallying to support Tom Weller, affectionately known as the “Legendary Highwayman,” who has spent over 50 years helping stranded motorists. After a CBS 8 story highlighted his leaking roof and plumbing issues, the East County Posse stepped in to renovate his home. A GoFundMe campaign was also launched and has raised over $20,000 for additional repairs and future maintenance.

The East County Posse, a group of volunteers dedicated to assisting those in need, is spearheading the renovation project, which includes a new roof and bathroom overhaul. ABC Supply donated roofing materials, and three roofing companies collaborated on the installation. The community’s response has been overwhelming, with many feeling compelled to give back to the man who has selflessly helped so many.

Tom Weller, who has rescued over 10,000 broken down drivers, found himself needing help after years of helping others. His story resonated with the community, leading to the outpouring of support. El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells even plans to declare a “Tom Weller Day” in his honor. The GoFundMe funds will be used to address other necessary repairs and future home maintenance.
